About Capistrant Center for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders

TerranceA diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease can be frightening. It is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement. Parkinson’s generally starts with a slight tremor in just one hand. Eventually, it causes a slowing or freezing of movement.

At Bethesda Hospital's Capistrant Center, progressive treatments and therapy allow Parkinson's patients to maintain a high level of function. A host of medical and surgical treatments provide hope for those with movement disorders and their families. Physical, occupational and speech therapies are important components to the treatment program that also includes education and support groups.

The Center is named for Dr. Terrance Capistrant, a retired Bethesda neurologist who has Parkinson's. Dr. Capistrant and his family are dedicated to helping those with movement disorders to live their lives to the fullest.
